Project Scope
TEG Consulting Engineers was engaged by the Cassowary Coast Regional Council to design a rear door seal to prevent waste liquid form leaking from the bin door onto the road during transportation.
Liquid waste can be oily and possess a risk to vehicles by creating greasy patches on the road.
The rear door seal must achieve the following:
- Completely sealed the rear door, when closed subjected to 300mm of head pressure.
- Resilient to various contaminates with corrosive attributes.
- Is durable to withstand waste movement of hard objects sliding along the floor and walls.
- Is able to be easily maintained.
- Does not inhibit the opening and closing of the door.
Our Involvement
TEG was engaged to design the seal mechanism that could be fitted to any waste bin. It was then tested and certified, with TEG also providing a maintenance system for the seal.
TEG Consulting undertook the following actions:
- Designing a seal with EPDM mould to compress, seal and provide a durable compound.
- Design a steel support bracket to protect the EPDM mould.
TEG Consulting made arrangements for AS-Con pickup and submission for acquittal documentation. This required field notes, photos and test results compiled of finished works.
Project Outcomes
A bin was filled with water to 300mm high and left for an hour. Successfully there were no leakages.
