Project Scope
Building 71 is a multi-use hall originally constructed in 1973. Notwithstanding some limited maintenance, the entire superstructure required significant renovation in order to return the entire building to functional use.
The primary building frame consists of concrete framed walls and full-span steelwork trusses, all on pad footings.
Severe deterioration of concrete footings was clearly visible prior to repair works. During construction it was discovered that steel framing extended through to the sub-surface footings and corrosion of this steel was the main cause of concrete splitting.
The concrete repair detail selected was compatible with the alternate framing encountered on site and the repair could proceed essentially as detailed.
Our Involvement
TEG consulting was engaged as a sub-consultant by i4 Architecture. We initially prepared a structural condition report based on detailed site inspections and then prepared subsequent construction documentation of alterations and repairs.
TEG consulting was also engaged to provide structural advice during construction.
Project Outcomes
By careful selection of a flexible repair methodology during documentation only minor adjustment was required during construction and no variation was raised by the Contractor.
