Oktedi Mine Limited – Analysis of Bridges

Project was undertaken for Genesis Engineering on behalf of Oktedi Mine Limited

Oktedi Mine Limited (OTML) in Tabubil PNG, required a structural assessment of major bridges as part of their risk assessment strategy in planning for major heavy vehicle haulage. The bridges are all structural steel Calendar Hamilton Type.

The bridge analysis involved:

1. Onsite inspection of bridges, to confirm condition of components and accuracy of structural drawings provided.
2. Prepare design load model of all bridges to simulate the HLP platform movement across bridges. All bridges were modelled with all components and applied with applicable reduction of strength to simulate the current condition of the members.
3. Perform analysis and prepare report noting the capacity of the bridge for the various HLP scenarios to AS5100.2.
4. Report contained risk assessment and advise as to remediation works were required to achieve HVL capacity in accordance with AS5100.

TEG Consulting Engineers was responsible for the inspection and design analysis of all bridges.

TEG Consulting also prepared risk assessment, structural condition report and structural analysis of all bridges.

The analysis scope posed a number of challenges:

1. Obtaining accurate assessment of bridge member condition.
2. Preparation of models and simulations of HLP Loadings.

TEG Consulting Engineers completed all scope requirements and issued to OTML.
